There’s nothing I love more than the first few moments of the day. I try my best to carve out quiet time before jumping into work or checking off my morning workout. No matter my schedule though, I always end up at my breakfast nook. In my home, this space is small (just enough room for a tulip table and two chairs right off my galley kitchen). But the impact it makes is vast. As I settle into the spot by the window with my coffee, I always feel a sense of gratitude for this comfy corner. Having a designated space for breakfast, reading, journaling, or daydreaming out the window is such a gift. And adding a breakfast nook to your own home is not as complicated as you think.

20 Breakfast Nooks to Inspire a Beautiful Morning

These versatile spaces are perfect for that one weird spot in your home you’re not sure what to do with—and breakfast nooks come in all shapes and sizes. Whether you add a table and chairs to a corner or outfit a wall with a plush banquette, the design options are endless. You deserve to start your day in a beautiful space, and these breakfast nooks are sure to inspire a cozy corner of your own.

Make it Moody

Deep, moody color palettes are in this year. Add some drama to your breakfast nook by incorporating darker colors, like designer Katie LeClercq has done here. The custom forest green banquet looks stunning paired with the calacatta marble pedestal table. When working with darker color palettes, be sure you balance your space with lighter colors. The contrast will make your darker colors pop, just like the banquette does here against the white walls and cabinets.

Add Some Cheer

We could all use a burst of energy in the morning, and it doesn’t have to come from your caffeinated drink of choice. Designer Amy Atkins outfitted this nook with cheery yellow banquette cushions that instantly make this space sing. Yellow signifies joy, hope and freshness—perfect sentiments for starting your day. A dash of yellow in an all-white interior will give your space an exciting jolt.

Soak in the Sun

If your kitchen gets morning sun, situating your nook by a window is ideal. Bask in the AM rays while you sip on your coffee and get your daily dose of vitamin D without leaving the house.

The exposed ceiling beams in this kitchen designed by Lane McNab elevate this sun-soaked kitchen and bring even more warmth to the space. Envious of the look but don’t have ceiling beams in your home? Decorative beams can come in clutch. These can be installed purely for aesthetic reasons, no architectural function required.

Gorgeous in Green

Want to revive a bland and boring room? Add a vibrant color. This gorgeous green breakfast nook is unforgettable for anyone lucky enough to sit at the table. Don’t be afraid to lean in and go all out when designing a nook of your own. Paint or add a textured wallpaper in a brilliant hue, like the one shown here by Allen & James Home. Stick with neutral and elegant furnishings to keep your colorful wall the star of the show.

Pack in the Charm

Who wouldn’t want to dive into this warm and inviting corner? Embellish your breakfast nook with colors, textures and patterns that bring you joy. Heather Strommen’s nook is bursting with charm—from the gingham cushions and pillows to the pretty plates on the wall. Want to add even more delight to your space? Use sentimental items as decor for a heartfelt touch.

Keep It Simple

Let’s be real, neutrals will never go out of style. This sunny space is sleek and minimal, and the oval table is perfect for both casual breakfasts and formal dinners. When designing your own neutral space, include a variety of textures to keep things interesting. There’s a beautiful balance of warm wood, marble surfaces and soft window shades that make this breakfast nook designed by Flatiron 27 anything but boring.

Mix and Match Prints

Fun prints add a bit of whimsy and a personal feel to your space. Sometimes more is more, and Ashi Waliany of Cusp Interiors had a ball with cheeky bird wallpaper in this nook. Instead of opting for a neutral window shade, she kept the prints going. The subtle red vines that adorn the shade tie in the pops of red from the wallpaper, making this space utterly charming.

When mixing patterns in your own space, be sure to include similar colors so the space feels cohesive. Choose patterns with different sizes as well—a large print can be dominant while smaller patterns act as accents.

Hang Unique Art

Statement pieces pack a punch, and hanging unique art in your breakfast nook adds a touch of character to the space. The vibrant colors in this breakfast nook designed by Emily Winters are beautiful, and the black accents from the chairs, light fixture, and frame balance everything out nicely.

Make it Work in Your Space

If you don’t have room for a full nook, get creative. This sweet corner makes fantastic use of the small space by the stairwell, proving that nooks don’t always have to be in the middle of your kitchen.

Take a look around your kitchen or the space nearby. Is there an empty corner not being utilized? Could you do some rearranging to make room for seating and a small table? Remember that nooks don’t need a lot of space to be functional and polished.

Take Inspiration From Nature

Some say that Mother Nature is the best designer there is, and we have to agree. Adding greenery will breathe life into any space, and selecting nature-inspired prints and art is always a great place to start when looking for inspiration. Not only did designer Amanda Simmons frame and hang botanical prints, but the corner banquette is patterned with vines as well. If you’d like to add an instant pick-me-up to your space, treat yourself to flowers and place them at the center of your table. It never fails.

Think Big

Breakfast nooks are often cozy and quaint, but that doesn’t mean they all have to be. If you have a large family or love hosting brunch, think big. This sizable breakfast nook by Tami Ramsay and Krista Nye Nicholas is chic, stylish, and fit for a crowd. Oval tables are perfect for seating six, but don’t feel like you need to stick with round edges for your nook. A classic rectangle dining table would work just as well and can seat many.

Make your breakfast nook your own personal art gallery by hanging framed art and prints. The stunning art in this gallery wall designed by Jackson Warren is actually framed needlepoint. Make your gallery wall extra special by including not only art, but photos and personal mementos as well. For a cohesive and balanced look, tie everything together by choosing throw pillows with similar colors found in your art.

Breakfast With a View

While it’s a no-brainer to situate your nook by a window, it makes even more sense if it comes with a view. This breakfast nook, designed by Emily Moss, gets gorgeous sunset views on Anna Maria Island. If your home comes with a view, celebrate it by situating your seating near a window. Make it as inviting as you can with plenty of pillows and throws, letting your guests get comfy and take it all in.

Add Something Unexpected

Over time, it can be easy to get bored with your space. This makes sense if you’ve lived in the same place for a few years, but it’s nothing a little creativity (and paint!) can’t fix. This simple breakfast nook needed something extra, and adding green chairs is the perfect pop of whimsy and excitement. If you have old wooden chairs, consider giving them new life by painting them an unexpected hue.

Let the Lighting Shine

A prominent lighting fixture above your breakfast nook can make a fantastic focal point. This light blue conical pendant is gorgeous, and ties in beautifully with the cushions on the rattan chairs. Pro tip: Linear pendants are perfect for rectangular dining tables and narrow spaces, while chandeliers and round pendants are better for smaller spaces and square tables.

Keep It Classic

For a timeless look, try a black and white color palette. This striking setup designed by SuzAnn Kletzein displays gorgeous black and white plates on the wall, as well as black chairs and black and white pillows. You can’t go wrong with gold accents in a black and white space, so opt for a gold lighting fixtures or a table with gold detailing as Kletzein has done here.

Incorporate Storage

You can never have enough storage and utilizing every inch of your home is key, especially if you live in a small space. Take advantage of banquettes built with drawers for optimal kitchen organization. Store anything from extra dish towels, napkins, or seasonal kitchen items. You could even use the space for board games, homework supplies, or coloring books if your kitchen nook is the spot for family game night or after school activities.

Coordinate Your Accents

Styling a room is very similar to piecing together an outfit. Keeping your accessories the same shade, (think a white tee and jeans with black sunnies and a black bag) will always look sleek and sharp. The same goes for a room. The black accents in this breakfast nook designed by Brittny Smith, down to the mugs and plates, make this corner subtly uniform. Try keeping your accents all the same shade like the black window trim, black pendant light, and black cabinet pulls shown here.

Cozy Up

The kitchen is the heart of the home, and where we dine should feel just as welcoming and warm. If you’re aiming for casual meals in this spot, a laidback vibe is essential. Make your breakfast nook as cozy as possible by adding cushy pillows, soft cushions, and plenty of comfortable seating. Take note of the generously sized pillows in Vision and Hammer’s bright and relaxed breakfast nook—they knew what they were doing when it came to inviting corners.

Make a Statement With Wallpaper

Wallpaper is such a fun way to infuse your style and personality into a room. Color and pattern set the mood, so decide on how you’d like your breakfast nook and select your paper accordingly. The soft blue wallpaper gives this breakfast nook a calm and relaxed vibe—the perfect ambiance for starting your day.

The Best Living Room Decor Ideas for 2024

2024’s biggest trends are a stark contrast from the minimalist designs we saw in 2023. Our designers’ observations and my own trend research make it clear that this year is all about establishing a mood when incorporating accent colors and signature pieces. While some of the previous year’s trends, such as curved edges, are here to stay, newer aesthetics like dark colors and cool metal tones have recently entered the design sphere in a subtle yet show-stopping way.

Why make a change? Think of your living room as a sanctuary for comfort and inspiration. It’s a place where the best ideas make their appearance in a less-intimate environment than the bedroom. Living room decor speaks to stylistic choices made from a place of comfort that simultaneously reflects the energy you’re drawn to wake up to each morning. With this in mind, we love incorporating new trends into your lived-in space without completely overhauling the vibes.

The idea of re-vamping a frequented space is always appealing, yet our designers note that incorporating the living room decor ideas for 2024 can be done with a few subtle shifts. However you’re looking to switch up your space in the year to come, there’s bound to be a trend for you.

Every product is curated with care by our editors and we’ll always give an honest opinion, whether gifted or purchased ourselves. If you buy something through our links, we may earn a small commission at no cost to you.

Deep, Moody, and Dramatic

Williamson says we can anticipate the “resurgence of moody, modern styles in 2024.” This, she notes, includes deeper, more dramatic colors in our spaces. If it’s time to tone down the brightness in your living room decor, but don’t feel inspired for a complete demo, try incorporating some standing light fixtures or dark wooden accent furniture that complement lighter walls.

Williamson is incorporating dramatic marbles and heavy textures to be “mixed with vintage pieces and natural materials to effortlessly blend timeless selections with what is making a comeback.”

Benchwright Etagere Bookcase

This bookcase’s rustic wood frame features handcrafted details like mortise and tenon joinery, plus a strength and simplicity we love.

Layered and Curved Seating

“Curved seating doesn’t appear to be going anywhere anytime soon—whether a curved sofa, a chair with a rounded back, or an ottoman with softly-shaped bun feet,” says Sullivan. Williamson notes that layered seating has also emerged as a living room buzzword, the goal being added comfort and appeal to the space.

“We’re looking specifically for a range of high-back chairs, medium-back couches, and low ottomans, adding interest to your eye, as well as offering plenty of places to sit.”

Healdsburg Small Wicker Swivel Chair

These woven rattan lounge chairs elevate any living space with sophisticated architectural lines and earthy handwoven texture. A swivel base and creamy cushions make them comfortable for lounging—and we love them as a pair.

Penn Ottoman

A cushy, inviting spot for your lazy Sundays, this ottoman will subtly soften your living room.

Modern living room decor ideas.

Art Deco & Cool Metals

The moodiness of 2024 decor doesn’t always come from color alone. Sullivan notes that cool metals may emerge as a frontrunner to complement the Art Deco aesthetic. She adds, “Art Deco interiors are having a moment as well as cooler metals. I think we’ll continue to see these elements making their way into living spaces by way of paneled walls, stainless steel materials, and moody lighting.”

Hastings Table Lamp

With an Art Deco-inspired dome shade and matching base, this lamp is a subtle accent to any space.

Vintage Pieces with Modern Lines

“Out with the old and in with the new” isn’t exactly this year’s vibe when it comes to living room decor. Williams says that we can anticipate a pairing of old and new in this year’s most popular design trends. “Combining the use of vintage pieces with modern lines has become more and more prevalent recently and I foresee 2024 being full of living rooms mixing the old with the new.”

Anticipate accent pieces, such as mirrors, chairs, and lamp fixtures, complemented by more modern furniture and styles.

Jack Sofa

Perfectly mid-century, this sweet, petite two-seater sofa features a solid wood frame and tufted cushions to elevate any space with effortless style.

Mix & Match Textiles

Colors and patterns are two of the most prominent living room design elements we may see shift in 2024. “Mixing and matching patterns and colors within different textiles is a huge trend right now. For instance, a blanket with checkered print, a rug with stripes & woven Roman shades. It adds visual interest to the space and gives an at-home feeling,” says Sullivan.

Williamson supports this, adding that layering also flows into textiles within the room, like curtains, throw pillows, and rugs. Try incorporating this variety by switching up your colors from monochromatic to complementary.

Textura Side Table

Inspired by the rich craft traditions of Mexico, this handwoven and handcrafted side table brings striking design and high-texture to an entryway, living room, or bedside table. The clean-lined beechwood frame, expertly wrapped with natural seagrass rope, blends modern design with artisanal excellence.

Colca Wool Rug

Designed with a beautiful geometric pattern and earth tones, this rug is perfect for any space needing an extra pop of texture.

All the Wood Tones

Sullivan says that wood-inspired details may be the change your living room needs in 2024. “I think we’re going to see a lot of mid-to-darker wood tones this year. Think accent chairs and coffee tables in darker tones—and mixing wood tones in general.” Williamson also notes that deep wood stains are highly sought-after in pursuit of a more moody and cool-toned space.

Petra Round Coffee Table

Round out your space. This modern table features graceful curves and a substantial pedestal base. Crafted of solid oak with oak veneers, the rustic brown shade is topped with beautiful Italian marble.

Textura Bench

This handcrafted bench brings striking design to your living room coffee table. Stack a few books and a vase—giving this beautiful bench room to shine.

Bright, white living room decor ideas.

A Variety of Texture

“In general, color/pattern are also standing out not only in decor but on the construction side of things as well! We’re looking at incorporating wallpapers, reassessing our cabinet finishes—think glossy vs. matte we’ve seen the last handful of years—and colored or patterned tile, as well as textured wall finishes like Venetian Plaster,” says Williamson.

While these big textural changes are bound to alter your living room space, smaller changes like incorporating woven rugs or throw pillows may be a simpler addition.

We’ve grown accustomed to fashion trends that cycle every season and even TikTok microtrends that fizzle out in a matter of weeks. But the aesthetics and our approach to interior spaces tend to stick around for years at a time. If you plan on refreshing your home this year, there’s no doubt you’ll want your space to look stylish and feel current. But because it’s tricky to know exactly what interior trends are in and what’s out, we’ve tapped a handful of designers for their thoughts on the outdated home decor trends of 2024.

Our biggest takeaway? 2024 is all about being bold and taking risks. We’re saying goodbye to all things traditional and focusing on making our homes true reflections of our personal style. Decorating your home is about surrounding yourself with things you love, so feel free to stick with trends that resonate and toss the rest. After all, style is subjective. But if you’ve been feeling the itch to overhaul your all-white kitchen or transform your minimalist living room, this may be your year. Ahead, discover the outdated home decor trends designers are happy to ditch in 2024.

Out: Open Kitchens

2024 brings good news for anyone longing for peaceful food prep and cozy cooking.

“Open kitchens are on their way out. People are craving segmented spaces after the adjustment to work from home,” Eddie Maestri, Principal Architect and Founder of Maestri Studio shares. We’re prioritizing layouts and design that allow us to compartmentalize our tasks, as the hustle and bustle of home life looks very different now than it did pre-pandemic. Smaller spaces and closed kitchens provide an intimate, private area for cooking and prep. Who wants to see a messy living room while romanticizing dinner prep anyway?

Creamy white living room.
Diana Ryu rounds out her living room’s creamy white paint with touches of light wood and chocolate brown accents.

Out: Cool Neutrals

Gray interiors have dominated for the past decade-plus, but cool neutrals are officially saying goodbye in 2024. The stark cool tones of whites and grays are out,” says Shelagh Conway Principal and Founder of Triple Heart Design. Excessive use of cool neutrals can make a room look and feel sterile, and we’re collectively ready for warmer, happier spaces. “Creamy white is the new white,” Conway remarks.

Out: Formal Living and Dining Rooms

Remember when dining rooms were off-limits except for special occasions? Or fancy living rooms reserved for company only? Jenna Morrow, lead designer and owner of Morrow Design Studios says formal living spaces are a thing of the past. “Gone are the days of ‘untouched’ rooms in our homes,” she comments. Cozy, casual spaces that perform double duty continue to be very popular.

“In 2024, we will see even more multi-functional spaces as homeowners continue to spend more time at home,” Morrow says. “From dining rooms that double as home offices to kids’ rooms that are also study hubs, every room in the home serves a purpose this year.”

Out: Fast Furniture

Buying cheap quality furniture can be convenient in a pinch, but Bianca Spinazzola, Owner and Designer of Spinazzola Interiors is happy the homeware version of fast fashion is on the outs.

“While the price tag may be nice, the trend toward prioritizing quality over fast furniture reflects a desire for long-lasting, durable pieces,” Spinazzola says. Ali Winkler, principal designer and founder of Ali Reeve Design agrees. “Consumers are realizing that it’s not worth buying inexpensive, quick-ship furniture that’s poorly made and requires frequent replacement,” Winkler explains.

“People are now seeking furniture investments that not only offer value, but also stand the test of time—emphasizing a shift toward sustainability and durability in design choices,” Spinazzola continues.

Out: Manufactured Wood

Morrow declares it’s officially time to ditch manufactured wood so natural materials can reign supreme. It should be no surprise that fast furniture is made from medium density fiberboard, a man-made material. MDF contains formaldehyde, a known carcinogen, which is reason enough to let it go and opt for the real thing instead.

“Think of furniture made from elements like Italian Travertine or Burl Wood,” she cites. “Not only are these pieces beautiful when they’re on display, but since they are made from authentic elements, no two items will look the same.”

Out: Minimalism

Minimalist interiors have been around for years now, but the days of all-white walls and beige-on-beige furnishings seem to be behind us. Alternatively, Spinazzola predicts 2024 will herald a new era of adventurous design choices that are highly individual.

“I foresee a larger focus on attention to detail; millwork, moldings, wallpaper, and meticulously designed pillows with trim,” she shares. “By embracing originality, it allows for unique and personalized spaces.”

Out: Traditional Cabinetry

Renovating your kitchen can be one of the biggest investments you make in your home. Avoiding outdated cabinets can save you a lot of grief down the road, so it’s good to know that traditional kitchen cabinet doors are beginning to fall out of style.

“We’re seeing more wood tones and panels instead of traditional cabinet fronts, which add a nice touch of nature and texture into the heart of the home,” Maestri says. Another popular option? “Clients are opting for built-ins to look like furniture,” he continues.

Malibu beach house.
Opt for reclaimed wood accents that soften the space and create a timeless look, as Ashley Merrill does in her Malibu home.

Out: Coastal California

This may be controversial, but Devon Wedman, Founder and Design Director of DGI Design x Build says it’s time for Coastal California style to step aside. Coastal interior design draws inspiration from the beach, but nautical motifs are sailing off into the distance. “This came in hot after Modern Farmhouse faded away, and I think people are ready for more drama and uniqueness,” she says.

In: Vibrant Colors

If cool-toned gray and white are out, this will be the year of bold and intrepid color palettes. “Spaces adorned with rich emerald green, deep red, and chocolate brown will be popular,” Morrow predicts.

Personalized living room.
Sami Bernstein Spalter incorporates personal touches through design books and sentimental wall decor.

In: Highly Personalized Spaces

Since 2024 is about ditching cookie cutter design choices, homes are looking to be highly personalized this year. This makes for a fun and unique challenge for designers and homeowners alike. “Who doesn’t want a design that’s a one-of-a-kind masterpiece?” Spinazzola notes.

In: Quality Furnishings

With fast furniture on the outs, sustainability is top of mind for many. Winkler is noticing her clients prioritizing and gravitating toward quality furnishings. “They’re understanding that it’s worth the wait and investment for elevated workmanship and materials,” Winkler says. Incorporating antique and vintage pieces is another way to ensure you’re bringing in unique, quality furniture that keeps your carbon footprint low. “I’m drawn to furnishings that tell a story, are well made and provide an element of surprise and delight,” she says.

Bright colored bathroom.
Alex McCabe creates a vibrant sanctuary by pairing unexpected textures and hues.

In: Making Bold and Dramatic Moves

While we love a soft neutral, 2024 is the year of stepping outside the box. Creating a one-of-a-kind home means being unafraid to take risks. Give your bedroom a refresh by splurging on that chartreuse headboard that’s been sitting in your virtual cart for weeks (and that you know you’ll love). Wallpaper your powder room with a bold print you were once afraid to use. Add some funky tile to your kitchen or bathroom. Let this be your sign to have fun and follow your heart. Life’s too short not to.

There’s a reason the sunset invites us to pause and take in its splendor—each illuminates the sky in a spectrum of pinks and oranges too beautiful to miss. The peachy hues are a nod to the beauty and abundance all around us. And with that wondrous embrace of the present moment, it’s evident why this soft, velvety shade was named the 2024 Pantone color of the year. Peach Fuzz is all-encompassing, warm, and radiant—timeless and on-trend all at once.

Officially Pantone 23-1023, Peach Fuzz sits softly between pink and orange. After a tumultuous year, the color is a warm invitation to slow down and prioritize our relationships. Introducing the dreamy shade to your home is a wonderful way to create what Pantone describes as “a feeling of kindness and tenderness, communicating a message of caring and sharing, community and collaboration.” And from my conversations ahead, it’s clear that designers agree.

Designers Share Their Takes on Pantone’s 2024 Color of the Year

“I know the selection of peach may feel like a surprise, but after the chaos of the world, the stress, the anxiety, the heaviness—peach doesn’t add to that noise,” says Joshua Smith, Principal and Founder of Joshua Smith Inc. “Rather, it’s uplifting, connecting, and is about lightening up and not being so serious.”

Jenna Morrow, owner and principal designer of Morrow Design Studios has noticed the need for comfort and well-being as well. “Many of us are still recovering from the months of isolation in 2020 as we make up for lost quality time with loved ones and reestablish plans that were delayed,” she shares. “A trend has emerged that places our desire for connection, wellness and gentleness at the helm. The Pantone color of the year, Peach Fuzz, celebrates our pursuit of comfort, care and community.”

How to Incorporate Peach Fuzz Into Every Room of Your Home

If you’re eager to explore Peach Fuzz’s warm and gentle vibes, look no further. We’ve rounded up our favorite ideas, inspiration, products, and designer tips to help you bring the romantic shade into your home.

Every product is curated with care by our editors and we’ll always give an honest opinion, whether gifted or purchased ourselves. If you buy something through our links, we may earn a small commission at no cost to you.

Paint

Painting your walls Peach Fuzz is a fantastic way to add softness and warmth to any space. According to Smith, it can also make a statement when styled in unexpected ways. “Peach is a great color for a ceiling, as it is highly flattering with warm, glowing light bringing out the beauty and softness of the skin,” he says.

Wallpaper

Pantone collaborated with Spoonflower on a collection of whimsical, peachy wallpaper that can refresh small and large spaces alike. “If adding wallpaper to a full room is too overwhelming, adorn a coat closet instead or place it on the ceiling paired with warm neutral walls,” Morrow suggests.

Living Room Accents

Accessories can enliven any living space with a pop of Peach Fuzz. Consider smaller room accents like throw pillows or table lamps or large ones like area rugs. Pantone also partnered with Ruggable on peachy washable rugs. Not sure what colors Peach Fuzz pairs well with? Pantone has created a few color palettes to help, and Smith loves incorporating peach with blues and greens. “It even works with magenta or purple, which are current obsessions of mine,” he says.

Drinkware

Picture yourself dining al fresco, sipping from a peach-tinted wine glass or coupe. Blissful, right? Come spring and summer especially, peach-colored drinkware will add a bit of flair and fun to your meals, whether they’re indoors or out.

Bathroom Textiles

“Don’t overlook adding color to quieter spaces like your bathroom,” Morrow shares. Peach textiles will add cheer to an otherwise neutral space and will make your morning and evening routines even cozier.

Bedroom Textiles

Diving into a soft and cozy peach bed? Yes, please. Whether you opt for a peach duvet with matching pillowcases or add a peach throw to your neutral bedding, the pop of color will bring a gentle warmth to the entire room.

Florals

Peach Fuzz will be especially welcome in your floral displays come spring and summer, whether you choose to go faux or invest in the real thing. “Add faux florals to your entryway vase or kitchen countertop to extend a gentle welcome that’s as warm as the season,” says Morrow.

Tabletop Styling

Coffee table styling is an art in and of itself, and adding Peach Fuzz-hued vases and coffee table books will create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, especially when mixed with a variety of other colors and textures.

Kitchen Accents

The kitchen is the heart of the home, and subtle Peach Fuzz elements like a knife set or dishcloths add an unexpected and uplifting vibe to the well-loved gathering space.

Accent Chairs

Adding new accent chairs will instantly refresh any space, and these peach pieces will no doubt be conversation starters, whether you decide on a leather and white oak chair for the corner of your living room or a velvet barrel chair for a cozy reading nook.

Paint is more than simply a pigment, and its influence extends beyond the visual. Our walls express a mood, influencing our energy and establishing the vibe of a space. And as with anything aesthetically significant, how we choose to experience our homes—by the way of color—is subject to the ebbs and flows of taste. What we’re attracted to, whether it’s a waterfall kitchen island, a sentimental reading nook, or any design flourish, is a reflection of our world. Both with attention to the present and an appreciation of the past. Paint is powerful—and the paint color trends of 2024 express exactly that.

In the year to come, designers anticipate sophistication and warmth conveyed through deep browns, unexpected purples, and grounding pairings for Pantone’s Peach Fuzz. Ready to see what the year has in store? Ahead, designers share their takes on the paint color trends of 2024.

Rich Browns

“Gone are the days of stark whites and bleak greys as people continue to gravitate toward hues that provide warmth and character in 2024,” says Samantha Stathis-Lynch of Samantha Ware Designs. The designer anticipates “rich, mud-like browns” to influence our living spaces. Ware calls the choice charming and sophisticated, citing Farrow and Ball’s London Clay as her favorite embodiment of the trend.

It’s a departure from last year’s dopamine decor, which favored all things bold and bright. But as homeowners seek to cultivate a calm haven, subdued shades are top of mind. Brad Ramsey, Principal and Founder of Brad Ramsey Interiors agrees, noting that our collective penchant for caffeine will reign over our design choices. “Think about coffee, cappuccino and lattes and how those warm colors hit the spot just like your afternoon Starbucks fix.” Sound cozy? Ramsey loves Sherwin Williams’ Iced Mocha 9092 to bring the trend to life.

Cozy and Warm Earth Tones

While the hype behind Chocolate Brown’s influence is a trend unto itself, the brown-is-the-new-black shift from Barbiecore pink leads us into the expansive world of earthy tones. Charity Buchika of Teaselwood Design opts for these organic shades when looking to design “a luxurious canvas and add depth to create an inviting atmosphere.” It’s a trend we’ve seen gather steam over the past few years, and interiors will continue to lean on these versatile shades. Clinton Brown by Benjamin Moore is the designer’s go-to, noting that it “complements lighter tones nicely by introducing striking contrasts.”

Deep Purples

Joshua Smith, Principal and Founder of Joshua Smith Inc. is happy to welcome a surprising new color family to the design zeitgeist—purple. But it’s not the poppy, jarring pigment that first comes to mind. “Think deeper shades like plum and amethyst, even magenta,” Smith says. If cultivating inner peace is on your 2024 vision board, purple is your color of the year. “From a psychology perspective,” notes the designer, “purple promotes harmony of the mind and the emotions. It contributes to mental balance and stability, calming the nerves.” Smith loves the trend so much, he painted the front door of his Vermont studio Farrow and Ball’s Pelt.

If you’re not ready to go all-in with the trending hue, Stathis-Lynch loves purple as an accent, simultaneously spanning the spectrum of emotion to capture both an eclectic and moody vibe. With its subtle red tint, she recommends Brinjal by Farrow and Ball.

Nature-Inspired Hues

A common consensus among the designers we interviewed is that natural influence will reign over the paint color trends of 2024. Shelagh Conway, Principal and Founder of Triple Heart Design in Austin, predicts the year will be defined by a “mix of soft neutrals and rich earth colors. Think of the morning light at sunrise—the soft, dreamy pastels and the drama of the night sky.” Colors will continue to draw influence from nature’s inherent calm and peace.

Eddie Maestri, Principal Architect and Owner of Maestri Studio in Dallas, coins the moment a deep lean into “biophilic design.” Ginger Curtis, CEO and Founder of Urbanology Designs agrees with the terminology, predicting that “shades of taupe and beige will infuse spaces with a sense of timeless elegance and a palette that evokes the comforting warmth of sun-kissed landscapes.”

The nod to all that’s organic will make its away to our exteriors as well. But because of the exposure to the elements, exterior paints favor preservation and longevity through more muted tones, says Nastassja Bowman of Kristen Elizabeth Design. There’s also a desire to seamlessly blend a build into the environment around it. “Pulling colors from nature is a great way to bring in color without impeding on the exterior landscape,” says Bowman.

Interior decorator Kathrain Rhudy loves the blending of this trend with the year’s shift toward timeless appeal. “Rather than choosing a bright white, opt for something a little more subtle and combine with dark grey green for a dramatic and sophisticated look.”

Accessible Whites

Achromatic and neutral, white is often slated as an afterthought—the default shade designers opt for without consideration for what a room truly needs. But this year, we’ll see white contributing to our penchant for comfort and stability in our spaces. Matthew Blonand of MMB Studio captures the trend using Dunn Edwards DEW380, loving its warmth and versatility “for an art-filled interior with wood floors.”

Eleanor Trepte, Principal Designer of Dekay & Tate predicts a similar role for whites in 2024—a salve to soothe and subdue other hues. She calls Benjamin Moore’s White Dove an “easy” white, citing its ability to pick up and play well with other tones. Melinda Trembly of Rincon Rd loves this off-white as well, pairing White Dove with Natural Cream on the trim of a recent project. A proponent of the trend, she loves Swiss Coffee as a universal shade and the creamy warmth of Mascarpone on cabinetry.

Peach Fuzz

It comes as no surprise—any hue Pantone names its Color of the Year is bound to find its way to our walls. Designer Laura Chappetto Flynn of Element Design Network loves peach for the “cheerful, playful vibe” it lends to any space, encouraging homeowners to experiment with the hue as an upbeat accent color. To keep the retro shade from overwhelming a room, she advises pairing it with a grounding color—”rich navy, deep green, and chocolate brown being our favorites.” Two trending paint colors in one? We’re here for it.

And if you’re hesitant to lean into the year’s ubiquitous shade, Chappetto Flynn suggests opting for a wallpaper that incorporates the color into its design. Complete the look by painting the ceiling for an “unexpected accent.” The designer loves employing the trend in either a powder or mud room.

Bright, Accented Exteriors

Amber Guyton of Blessed Little Bungalow suggests opting for vibrant shades beyond just peach in 2024, with blues and greens making their appearance in exteriors. “Exterior doors are also a great way to add a warm pop of color like brick red, orange, or yellow.”

And while Bowman loves the look of muted tones used in large swaths across an exterior, she agrees that striking, bold colors can work well on a trim if used in a gloss finish.

It’s proof that no matter how much inspiration we draw from the natural world, color—when used thoughtfully—will always be in.

Beige and clean white kitchens had a good run, but it’s thrilling to witness a move toward bolder hues and unique touches as we head into the New Year. To get a temperature check on what’s to come, we tapped talented designers to share their 2024 design trend predictions.

Warm hues and maximalism are in, as are bathrooms (or wet rooms) that feel more like spas. There’s a focus on mixed metals, sculptural wood, and sustainability done well. A crisp, clean white will always be in, but as Chicago-based designer Devon Wegman says, “People are tired of playing it safe—at least we are—and sticking with neutrals everywhere. Today, we’re incorporating more and more graphic stone, provocative artwork, and statement chandeliers. People no longer want their home to look just like their neighbors, and in order to do that, it’s critical to take risks.”

These are the experts’ best bets for the top design trends of 2024.

No More Gray Haze

“Any remnants of the gray trend for paint and flooring stains will officially say goodbye in 2024—finally!” says Eddie Maestri, principal architect and founder of Maestri Studio in Dallas, Texas.

Peak Peterson, interior design principal at Hoedemaker Pfeiffer in Seattle seconds that sentiment. “Cool gray rooms are on the way out, as a preference for warmth and dimensionality is becoming more popular,” she adds.

The Rise of the Wet Room

“Something I hope more people will lean into is the concept of a wet room,” shares Devon Wegman (she/her), Founder and Design Director of Devon Grace Interiors. Incorporating a bathtub right into your shower space (and not the tub-showers you had growing up) allows you to soak while capturing the steam and heat in the space, making the tub experience even more luxurious.”

Spa-Like Amenities At Home

And speaking of wet rooms, several designers are predicting more luxurious bathrooms all around.

“With the push to work from home and exercise at home we’ll see more spa time at home,” shares Brad Ramsey of Nashville-based Brad Ramsey Interiors. “Steam showers, infrared saunas, and cold plunges are being incorporated more and more into our designs as they get more affordable and accessible.”

Designer Peak Petersen also envisions elevated bathroom lighting in 2024. “A step past a simple sconce pair flanking the mirror, 2024 will explore the options of backlit mirrors and wall washing with integrated ceiling lighting which adds a minimalist edge to the bathroom,” shares the interior design principal of Hoedemaker Pfeiffer

The Power of Purple

“We saw this emerge slowly, but a new color family has now taken the town by storm: purple–but not the purple that pops to mind!” shares Joshua Smith, principal and founder of Joshua Smith Inc. “Think deeper shades like plum and amethyst, even deep magenta. Apart from being aesthetically pleasing, from a psychological perspective, purple promotes harmony of the mind and the emotions.”

Demaudecia Taylor, a color consultant for Farrow & Ball, notes that this 2000s trend resurgence comes with a modern twist. “Instead of using these colors solely for small powder rooms, people are now using rich shades like Preference Red No. 297 and Brinjal No. 222 to create intimate and cozy spaces in large areas such as bedrooms and formal dining rooms,” Taylor notes.

Sleek Sustainability

Smith expects an even greater push toward green living this year, with better education for clients and transparency for vendors. And when it comes to recycled materials, architect principal Tori Masterson of Hoedemaker Pfeiffer anticipates a more polished look.

“Rustic reclaimed materials are on their way out, to be replaced by reclaimed materials that have been refurbished and revived for their next life,” Masterson notes.

Beyond Bringing the Outdoors In

“Nature will be embraced in design in 2024, but it’s not just about bringing the outdoors in—it’s making a part of the design,” shares Katie Browning and Heather Lucas of Lucas Browning Designs. “We will be incorporating large windows framing picturesque views, skylights that invite starry nights, and mirrors strategically positioned to multiply the goodness.”

Extra Large Sinks

“We’re seeing a lot of clients request extra long sinks these days—anywhere from four to six feet long,” shares Wegman. “With that, we’re able to fit two main faucets, filtered water dispensers, disposal switches, and soap pumps (one for hand soap, one for dish) with plenty of room to spare.”

Curved Love

Designers agree: curves are here to stay. “Whether they are on a furniture silhouette or in the actual architecture, they are back in a big way and softening our living experiences,” Ramsey says.

Less Open Kitchens

“Open kitchens are on their way out as people crave segmented spaces after the adjustment to work from home,” shares Maestri. “In terms of what’s in for kitchens, clients are opting for built-ins to look like furniture instead of traditional cabinetry, and there’s a pull toward retro details such as the use of tiles on countertops and tables.”

That’s So Metal

Several designers are predicting more powder-coated pipes and less expected metals, like pewter, rose gold, and polished copper. It all essentially confirms one of Pinterest’s 2024 Home Decor Trend Forecast predictions—”Hot Metals: Melty metallics will make their way into the mainstream in 2024 as people trade in their trusty neutrals for something a bit more hardcore.”

Warm Layers

“This year, the color palette is all about warm neutrals, and we are even seeing a resurgence of pastels—a dash of pastel pink for a sweet touch, moody blue for a mysterious allure, light blue like a clear sky, and soft yellow or bold ochre to add a sunny pop,” Katie Lucas and Heather Browning of Lucas Browning Designs. “Together, these shades create a room that’s not just stylish but also oozing with comfort and charm.”

Interior designer Brad Ramsey calls it “tailored eclectic.” “That term usually elicits images of cluttered rooms with no true design direction,” he notes. “But no more, it’s time to layer it up the right way.”

Organic Shapes, Textures, and Colors

“I think designers and consumers will draw inspiration from nature and incorporate more organic shapes, textures, and colors using materials like raffia, bone, and papier-mâché,” says Jamie Young, founder of Jamie Young Co. “I’m expecting to see a shift in decor trends, emphasizing individual expression with handmade, artisanal décor opposed to the reserved and minimalist style choices that have been prevalent in the past few years.”

20 Gift Wrapping Ideas to Fit Any Present

While I’d consider myself an aesthetically-inclined person, I cannot, repeat CAN-NOT wrap presents to save my life. I’ve gotten more efficient in recent years and opted instead for the can’t-mess-it-up gift bag solution. And while that’s definitely helped keep my presents from being an eyesore, I do want to bring a little creativity to my Christmas wrapping.

The good news is, there are plenty of creative ways to add flair to your presents. That’s why we curated this list of gift wrapping ideas to fit any style. There’s minimalist, maximalist, and au natural. There’s colorful, classic, and beautifully craft-inspired. However you want to wrap your presents, this list has it. DIY Minimal Wreath

DIY Minimal Wreath From A Daily Something

If you’ve ever tried making a wreath before, you know that it takes both artistry and strength. Thankfully, minimal wreaths are trending. Simply string together some greenery, add a few floral embellishes, and you’re set.

DIY Botanical Clay Ornaments

DIY Botanical Clay Ornaments From Semi Stories

If you love the look of handmade ceramics but want to make something a little less involved, oven-dry clay is an easy go-to. These are almost just like making cookies. Dala Horse Ornaments & Gift Toppers From Frances et Moi

Christmas Ornaments With Toilet Paper Rolls

Christmas Ornaments With Toilet Paper Rolls From Ohoh Blog

Before you let go of your toilet paper rolls, first ask what amazing DIY Christmas decorations you can make. Acrylic paint and a few strategic snips level up your recycling for graphic, bright ornaments that add a much-needed pop of color.

Clay Mushroom Ornaments

Clay Mushroom Ornaments From Paper & Stitch

While mushrooms might not be your first choice for the tree, trust me: they’re trending. Everywhere I look, I see red and white felted fungus and glammed-out toadstools. But none are prettier than these pastel-painted cuties. And I just learned: mushrooms are a good luck symbol. Be sure to keep yours up for New Year’s!

Christmas Advent Paper Houses

I love the idea of a deconstructed advent calendar. Instead of keeping yours contained on the wall, weave it into your holiday décor by setting these paper houses on your mantle or creating a winter wonderland on a shelf.

Sculptural but simple, these paper stars would make a gorgeous geometric garland. I love the idea of using non-traditional colors that still evoke the warmth and coziness of the season.

Over the last few years, the question of what counts as a meaningful gift has sat at the forefront of my focus. Especially in 2023, with inflation continuing to be top of mind (coupled with retailers going all-out for Black Friday), the pressure to purchase can feel like a lot. And as I’ve grown more intentional in my gift-buying, I’m looking toward DIY gift ideas as a creative, made-with-love option.

21 DIY Gift Ideas Everyone Will Love

If you haven’t yet discovered the profound joy of creating with your hands, let me wax poetic. In pursuing a handmade home and a slower life, I’ve learned that filling my house with crafted goods is a gratifying lesson in love. And this holiday, it’s my goal to provide friends and family with the same, small reminder of my thanks and gratitude. And let me tell you—these DIY gift ideas are capable of communicating exactly that.

So let’s get to it! I have a feeling these gifts will each be met with a response of awe: “You made this?!” (C’mon, who wouldn’t love to hear that?)

Plastic Bottle Vases DIY gift ideas

Plastic Bottle Vases from Creative Gen

As far as DIY gift ideas go, this one delivers the best before and after. Have you ever held a plastic bottle in your hands and thought: this could be a gorgeous vase? Me neither. But after seeing the magic happen before my own eyes, I’m a believer. This gift couldn’t be easier—and while it makes a little bit of a mess, you’ll love the short materials list.

DIY Velvet Inspired Ornaments DIY gift ideas

DIY Velvet Inspired Ornaments from Alice & Lois

I love the idea of DIY gift ideas that double as a sentimental reminder of your love. These sweet little velvet ornaments would be so fun to share with neighbors. Year after year, they’ll put these up and marvel at your small gift of generosity.

DIY Pearl Daisy Chain Necklace

DIY Pearl Daisy Chain Necklace from Honestly WTF

I can’t get over how cute this minimalist daisy chain necklace is. This is the sort of DIY gift I imagine making for both myself and sharing with my best friend. Because we’ve built our friend long-distance, this thoughtful present would be a lovely way to remember she’s always just a call away.

DIY Cottage Core Hair Bows

DIY Cottage Core Hair Bows from Pin Cut Sew Studio

Hair bows are the biggest winter hair accessory, and though you can certainly find inexpensive options, they’re also so easy to make yourself. Each of these costs just $2.50 to make and call for just a little tying and sewing. Even teenagers (the notoriously most hard-to-please giftee) will wear theirs all throughout the year.

Hand Crochet Blanket

Hand Crochet Blanket From Flax & Twine

I’ve been seeing blankets on everyone’s gift guides and it makes sense. Nothing encourages wintertime coziness quite like a soft, warm throw. And while there are plenty of options online, making one by hand is all the more special. This project takes only an hour (!!) and if you’re new to crocheting, it couldn’t be easier to learn.

Polymer Clay Knot Paperweight

DIY Polymer Clay Knot Paperweight From Fall for DIY

Skip the pricey West Elm option and make this simple dupe. It only requires three supplies: polymer clay, a craft knife, and sandpaper. If you’re looking for a way to help your friends step up their shelfie game, this is it.

Mushroom Lamp

DIY Mushroom Lamp From Collective Gen

SO. CUTE. I can’t stop swooning over these adorable lamps. Do you have a design-obsessed friend on your list? This adorable little lamp would be perfect on a nightstand or in their office. If you’ve ever wondered what you can do in a metal mixing bowl besides bake up a treat, this is your answer.

No-Sew Braided Velvet Headband

No-Sew Braided Velvet Headband from A Beautiful Mess

How cute is this headband? And good news: it requires exactly zero sewing on your part. Seriously, anyone and everyone can make this on-trend headband. Just a little snipping, gluing, and pinning is all that’s asked of you. How fun would this be as a stocking stuffer?

Fabric Wine Bags

DIY Fabric Wine Bags From The Merrythought

Bottles of wine are always a lovely gift, but how about adding a handmade touch to the mix? I love sharing simple gifts with friends while being sure to weave in something that feels a bit more personal. These easy bags do just the trick.

DIY Taper Candles

DIY Taper Candles From Alice & Lois

The colorful, bright, and cheery candle trend is holding strong. This is a bit more of an involved DIY, but the gorgeous end totally merits the means. If you want a candle that’s more geometric—and totally adorable—these bubble candles are a delight.

DIY Dried Flower Bouquet

DIY Dried Flower Bouquet From Honestly WTF

A fresh flower arrangement feels more like a Valentine’s Day or anniversary gift. But a dried bouquet? A perfect move. You can purchase dried flowers online or visit a craft store. I’ve even discovered a few florists in Chicago who carry dried flowers as well. Follow the simple instructions to craft an arrangement that your giftee will be happy to keep for years to come.

Fluted Arch Plant Stand Two Ways

Fluted Arch Plant Stand Two Ways From A Beautiful Mess

I love the bold look of these plant stands. They’re a cute way to elevate (literally) any of your plant pals and bring their look to new heights. The best part? From start to finish, they take only minutes to make.

DIY Knit Bandana

DIY Knit Bandana from Flax & Twine

If you’re a knitter like myself, you’ll love this sweet knit bandana. The delicate lace edging is gorgeous, and while this project isn’t for a beginner, it won’t give you too much trouble if you’ve been honing in your skills for a few years.

DIY Faux Stoneware Candle Holder

DIY Faux Stoneware Candle Holder From Fall for DIY

If you’re not into the process of making your own candles, this DIY is an easy way to make a simple store-bought candle feel all the more special. The secret to this candle holder’s cool stoneware effect? Polymer and sand. Yep, that’s it.

DIY Knot Pillow

DIY Knot Pillow From Sugar & Cloth

I’ve been coveting one of these pillows for years, but they’ve never seemed worth the price tag to me. (I mean, are they even that comfy?) Thankfully, this DIY showed me the light and convinced me that yes: these feel like you’re cuddling up next to a literal cloud. These little guys add a soft, sculptural touch to any couch, accent chair, or bed.

DIY Copper Vases

DIY Copper Vases From Home Oh My

If you do want to go the fresh flower route (I’ll take a dozen peach peonies, please and thank you), this is the perfect vessel. A little copper metallic spray paint completely transforms the look of a galvanized tin container.

DIY Concrete Bowl

DIY Concrete Bowl From Alice & Lois

I love the rustic elegance of these simple bowls. They’d look gorgeous on a coffee table or as a catch-all on your console. I’ve never thrown my keys into anything this stylish.

DIY Notebooks

DIY Notebooks From Paper & Stitch

As a writer who’s received many a notebook for Christmas, I would love love love to find one of these in my stocking. But professions aside, these are a great gift for anyone who needs to scribble an idea before they forget or who’s always down for a good doodle sesh. So… everyone on your list?

DIY Simple Potholders

DIY Simple Potholders From The Merrythought

When I first started knitting, I used to give my mom a pair of potholders for Christmas every year. While she used them often and lovingly, I think she’d appreciate these stunners all the more. These are fun to make out of fabric scraps or thrifted towels. An environmentally-friendly gift? You’ve done the impossible.

DIY Housewarming Gift

DIY Housewarming Gift From The Crafted Life

No one likes moving in the winter, so if you have a friend who’s had to swap homes during the colder months, they’ll be more than grateful to receive this gift. Candles, tea, jam, and a few DIY kitchen towels. I just moved a few months ago and confirm: this gift would bring me to tears (like, the good kind).

DIY Linen Hair Scrunchies

DIY Linen Hair Scrunchies From Collective Gen

I don’t see the scrunchie trend going anywhere (cute and convenient—double win). Did you know that they’re super easy to make? If you opt for linen, your gift will lean more country girl-chic than 80s-aesthete (that’s a good thing). This is another good project to put those linen scraps to use!

This One Design Decision Has a Massive Impact on How a Home Feels https://camillestyles.com/design/casa-zuma-paint-benjamin-moore/ https://camillestyles.com/design/casa-zuma-paint-benjamin-moore/#respond Sun, 19 Nov 2023 11:30:00 +0000 https://camillestyles.com/?p=252218 My go-to process for selecting paint colors.

The post This One Design Decision Has a Massive Impact on How a Home Feels appeared first on Camille Styles.

]]>
Paint has an incredible ability to enliven a space, imbuing a sense of ease and character into each room. For our family, the aesthetic power of paint played a major role in our design process, so we leaned on the integral quality of Benjamin Moore in the renovation of our 1950s Malibu beach house. We spend so much time within the walls of our home, so it’s an area where quality reigns supreme. I love how a simple, fresh coat of paint can bring out the beauty of a room. It’s something you can’t always put your finger on but makes a huge difference in the overall feeling.

When it comes to Benjamin Moore, the iconic paint company offers incredibly durable colors that stand up to years of wear and tear. This means that my walls always have the color vibrancy and smoothness that give it that clean slate feeling.

A Color Journey

Finding paint colors that speak to the soul of a home is a personal journey. It requires time, inspiration, and a keen sense of how you want the finished rooms to feel. We looked to the surrounding landscape for our color answers: Coastal California’s rocky cliffs, deep blue waters, wild grasses, and sandy beaches provided the palette from which we drew. From the beginning of our design process, we’ve drawn on Malibu’s incredible natural environment as inspiration. I want every element to feel as close to its natural state as possible.

The colors of Benjamin Moore provide an endless palette from which to feed this inspiration, believes Andrea Magno, the company’s director of color marketing and development. “Inspiration can come from so many different sources, and we want to provide the colors and resources that help both designers and homeowners bring that color inspiration to their walls,” Magno adds.

From the saturated blues of the ocean to the variations of blue found in the sky at different points in the day, to the warm neutrals that remind us of walking on a sandy beach, we’ll have beautiful choices that reflect my points of inspiration.

I love how a simple, fresh coat of paint can bring out the beauty of a room. It’s something you can’t always put your finger on but makes a huge difference in the overall feeling.

Blue dining room.

A Sea of Options

With more than 3500 colors, the Benjamin Moore offering is quite expansive. With hues ranging from bold and saturated, to muted and soft, to a wide range of whites and pastels, Magno admits the vast array may be overwhelming at first glance. But Benjamin Moore groups the colors into collections, each with distinct characteristics that can help customers navigate the options and find the colors that speak to them.

“For example, our Affinity collection is ideal for the customer who wants to mix and match colors with confidence, while our Off-White Collection is designed to offer a range of white paint colors all within one collection, making it easy to appreciate the nuances and subtleties within the white color family.”

We aim to keep our Malibu home color palette in lighter, more neutral tones that both honor the inspiring landscape and make the house feel expansive. When the main house is done, it’ll be 2,500 square feet, and my vision is that it’ll feel much larger. We’re designing the floor plan to be as open as possible—the vaulted ceilings, open living space, natural light, and muted palette will create that sense of airiness I love. Washes of lighter shades will create a flow and cohesiveness throughout the home, allowing a seamless transition from room to room and an overall sense of inspired ease.

11 Stunning Serving Boards to Elevate Your Charcuterie https://camillestyles.com/design/set-the-table/best-serving-boards/ https://camillestyles.com/design/set-the-table/best-serving-boards/#respond Wed, 08 Nov 2023 14:32:30 +0000 https://camillestyles.com/?p=250605 Get grazing.

The post 11 Stunning Serving Boards to Elevate Your Charcuterie appeared first on Camille Styles.

]]>
I feel blessed to live in the era of the grazing board. Nothing warms the soul quite like the sight of fruits, jams, nuts, crackers, and cured meats arranged just so. But even the most stunning cheeseboard would be nothing without the perfect serving board literally backing them up. When it comes to setting a table and displaying a spread that’s sure to wow your guests, nothing does it quite like these 11 best serving boards.

Ahead, we gathered 10 of the very best serving boards available now, from slate-black beauties to suit a modern charcuterie lover to rustic slabs that look like heirlooms. We’ve also included a few boards that could easily double as a display piece when you’re not entertaining.

Fall charcuterie board.

How to Create a Killer Charcuterie Board

Before we dive deep into the best serving boards, we’re happy to share the charcuterie-creating wisdom we’ve garnered over the years. In need of a beginner-friendly holiday charcuterie board? We have a guide for that. We also have top-tier tips for a fall grazing board, a board that has baked Brie as its centerpiece, and for how to make a charcuterie board on a budget. Want to impress Italian relatives or in-laws? Chef Erind Halilaj, Austinite and bonafide Italiano, can help with that. Don’t worry—we have you, and your board, covered.

The Best Serving Boards of 2023 for Every Style

In addition to style, weight was another consideration (we like our boards on the heavier side), as was the quality of the material used (fancy cheese deserves the best).

Every product is curated with care by our editors and we’ll always give an honest opinion, whether gifted or purchased ourselves. If you buy something through our links, we may earn a small commission at no cost to you.

The Best Classic Board: Casa Zuma Gathering Board

Handmade in Seattle from oak wood, this hardworking board (available in two sizes) clocks in at one inch thick, making it supremely durable and satisfyingly heavy. When it’s not hosting a spread, it also doubles as a stylish display piece.

The Best Artistic Board: Berea College Intersections Charcuterie Board

Handmade with natural wood by crafts program students at Berea College, each board, sold exclusively at Design Within Reach, is truly a work of art.

The Best Black Board: Crate & Barrel Tondo Ebonized Rectangle Serving Board

For modern cheese lovers, nothing ups the serving sexiness factor quite like a slate-back board made of ebonized acacia.

The Best Serving Board for Picnics: Serena & Lily Beachside Serving Board

Whitewashed mango wood, a charming dip-dye finish, and a useful leather handle allow this serving board to double as a decorative accent when it’s not at picnics on the beach.

The Best Melamine Board: Le Cadeaux Cheese Board

Le Cadeaux’s stylish dinnerware looks and feels like ceramics sourced from travels around the Mediterranean, but that’s the magic. The beautiful works are actually made of sturdy—and practically unbreakable—melamine.

The Best Reclaimed Wood Board: Casa Zuma Harvester Board

For a more patina’d look, this distinct board uses thoughtfully-sourced mango wood, an incredibly strong material that just gets better with age (and the occasional jam stain).

The Most Whimsical Board: Areaware Serving Friends Board

For a more playful approach to serving, this beech wood cutie has a small, circular indented center that’s perfect for a ramekin.

The Most Utilitarian Board: Casa Zuma Mango Wood Serving Platter

Charcuterie or not—you’ll want to have this handsome solid mango serving board forever on display. Thankfully, the platter’s raised edges make it a perfect catchall to keep on the counter.

The Best Olivewood Board: Sur La Table Italian Olivewood Slice Serving Board

This rustic board made with luxurious olivewood looks like it’s been passed down for generations.

The Best Glass Serving Board: Pottery Barn Slab Glass Cheese Board

We love how natural and earthy the recycled slab glass looks—a slick subversion of the typical wood charcuterie board. Clocking in at eight pounds, it’s a substantial piece, but it lets your food and tablescape shine.

The Best Oversized Board: Casa Zuma Large Vintage Wood Board

A great serving board is a solid background player, but Casa Zuma’s collection of oversized vintage boards command center stage. Thoughtfully collected across the European countryside (some are more than a century old), each board is a one-of-a-kind beauty with a story you’ll contribute to.

The Best Silverware Sets for Every Style & Aesthetic https://camillestyles.com/design/set-the-table/best-silverware-sets/ https://camillestyles.com/design/set-the-table/best-silverware-sets/#respond Sun, 05 Nov 2023 11:30:00 +0000 https://camillestyles.com/?p=251374 Thanksgiving here we come.

The post The Best Silverware Sets for Every Style & Aesthetic appeared first on Camille Styles.

]]>
Setting the table is one of our favorite ways to get creative. We’re counting down the days until we can design a warm, organic Thanksgiving table (Camille’s approach is all the inspiration we could ever need). And even when it’s just ourselves and a partner or we’re sitting down to a Tuesday night dinner with the kids, every meal is an opportunity to unleash your aesthetic prowess. With dinnerware, laidback linens, and statement-making florals, elevating your everyday table doesn’t have to be complex. And when it comes to the best silverware sets, each serves as the perfect finishing touch.

My family has passed down heirloom silver sets through the past four generations. (And yes, I spent a pretty penny shipping my own 20-piece set across the country.) While some may think it silly, the best silverware sets transform the experience of a meal. Everything from the visual appeal to the weight of your work influences our senses. Personally, I don’t want a plastic set ruining an otherwise spectacular dinner.

Cozy Thanksgiving table setting.

The Best Silverware Sets for Every Style and Aesthetic

But I also get it: in this wide, overwhelming world of stuff, finding the best silverware sets can lead to a days-long search. Thankfully, I got to do the (fun) work of shopping the most trusted home brands out there. And though I was expecting to be happy with my findings, the flatware that passed inspection is truly the best of the best.

Whether you’re in need of a larger set before the holidays or are simply looking to swap out the silverware you reach for on a daily basis, you’ve come to the right place. Shop the best silverware sets below—and get ready for a major tabletop upgrade.

Every product is curated with care by our editors and we’ll always give an honest opinion, whether gifted or purchased ourselves. If you buy something through our links, we may earn a small commission at no cost to you.

Best Overall: Sabre Ivory Flatware

Ever since Camille introduced Sabre to the Casa Zuma assortment, I knew the flatware sets would become an instant favorite. Aesthetically, the style is sleek but rustic—a true nod to the brand’s organic, wabi-sabi feel. Each 4-piece set can seamlessly transition between everyday dining and special occasion meals. The feel, weight, and overall design are all so good, that we had to include another Sabre favorite in our roundup. (Keep scrolling!)

Best Modern: CB2 20-Piece Pin Tumbled Flatware Set

Available in matte black, brushed silver, or shiny gold, this modern and sleek flatware uplifts every meal. The pieces are a lighter weight, and while they are dishwasher safe, we recommend hand-washing to retain the original hue.

Best for Everyday Dining: Schoolhouse Everyday Stainless Steel Flatware Set

Out of all the silverware sets featured in this roundup, this is the favorite in terms of weight. Even the dessert spoons and salad forks feel substantial in the hand and can hold up to heavier dishes and meals. The tumbled finish lends a smooth feel, and each set comes in a gorgeous storage box—perfect for gifting.

Best Color: Mepra Italian Flatware, Fantasia Color Flatware Set

How fun? This cheeky Italian flatware set comes in countless color options. (19 to be exact.) If you’re a design maximalist or simply want your everyday tableware to spark joy, this is your buy. And while we love the mix-and-match approach of the set pictured below, the pieces are also available in solid, single colors.

Best Budget: Threshold™ 20pc Izon Flatware Set Silver

Sometimes, you don’t want to spend several hundred dollars on a silverware set. (And sometimes, you definitely do—we have options for that.) If you need something that won’t cause any worry, this Threshold silverware set delivers. Each individual piece clocks in at just $2.50. But with the clean shape and mirror finish, the sets are designed to impress.

Best Bistro Style: Sabre Teak Flatware

When you’re after the best silverware sets, it only makes sense to highlight the craft and quality Sabre is known for. The design is easygoing but elevated and a fit for every dining occasion. I love how Camille styled her set for Thanksgiving. The pieces play so well off the texture and warmth she layered into the table. Take a cue from overseas and add this French-made set to your kitchenware collection.

Best Unique: Fazeek Wave Cutlery 4 Piece Set

I’m obsessed with everything Fazeek puts out, and this silverware set is no exception. Aligning with the brand’s signature, wavy style, this cutlery set is an instant conversation piece. It makes every meal all the more fun.

Best Retro: Mackenzie-Childs Supper Club Courtly Check 3-Piece Place Setting

Checkered prints aren’t going anywhere, and we love the trend’s interpretation in this retro-leaning set. With a satisfying grip and sturdy design, this three-piece place setting is versatile but distinct. Go all-in with printed placemats and linens or let this set make a statement all on its own. Prepare to get plenty of use from these beauties.

Best Gold Finish: Opalhouse™ x Jungalow™ 5pc Stainless Steel Silverware Set

Looking for a silverware set that doubles as art? Look no further. The stainless steel set is unfussy while still getting major points for visual appeal. Sleek and dishwasher safe—what more could you want?

Best Vintage-Inspired: Pottery Barn Vintage Tumbled Italian Flatware

While I’m all for using the nice things (be it china, glassware, or silverware) regularly to make every moment special, there are those things I get excited to use for reserved occasions. This Italian set, included. Set a classic, streamlined table with white dinnerware, crisp linens, and candles galore. Ina Garten would approve.

The post 20 Thanksgiving Table Ideas On Our Editors’ Pinterest Boards appeared first on Camille Styles.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Whenever the conversation arises, others offer up Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and even Halloween. But with the coziness, theme of gratitude, and opportunity to gather with my favorite people (not to mention eat all of my favorite foods), Thanksgiving always wins out. And of course, the majority of hosts dedicate their time and attention to the dishes themselves. But the power of Thanksgiving table setting ideas is that they serve to create an atmosphere and an environment that welcomes your guests with grace and warmth. I’d argue that’s something to spend a little time considering.

Thanksgiving tablescapes can go in infinite directions. But we prefer to align our approach with the season and spirit—taking inspiration from nature and setting a table that’s elegant, organic, and understated. With this guidance, there are plenty of ways to make it your own.

20 Thanksgiving Table Setting Ideas

Whether you opt for a Thanksgiving dinner or lunch (or sometime in between—the holiday throws out all convention when it comes to our mealtime), these Thanksgiving table setting ideas are a true celebration of the year’s most anticipated feast. We looked back in the archives to pull inspiration from our favorite tables over the years. From modern monochromatic to organic and earthy, scroll through our favorite Thanksgiving table setting ideas that we can’t wait to weave into our holiday decor planning. Trust us, your turkey will be in good company.

Psst… for more guidance on table setting etiquette, consult our guide to basic, casual, and formal table settings.

Every product is curated with care by our editors and we’ll always give an honest opinion, whether gifted or purchased ourselves. If you buy something through our links, we may earn a small commission at no cost to you.

Dried flowers Thanksgiving Table Setting Ideas.

Use Dried Flowers

There’s no need to face the crowds on Thanksgiving morning to pick up a fresh arrangement. Dried flowers are having their moment, and we love the sustainable approach to creating a beautiful tablescape. Dried grasses, amaranth, and even hydrangeas lend a gorgeous visual texture to the table. Arrange in an earthenware, ceramic vase and pair your flowers with neutral linens. You won’t believe the impact this simple touch adds to your Thanksgiving feast.

Thanksgiving grazing board

Add a Grazing Board for Edible Color

IYKYK: we’re all about a good grazing board here. And while it serves as a perfectly good appetizer and pre-cursor to the main meal, it can also be a way to give your table an interactive quality. Split pomegranates, whole pears, and halved figs all look gorgeous layered on a board with olives, nuts, cheeses, and dried meats. While the holiday may be all about the turkey and pie, we’re always here for the snacks.

Nature-inspired Thanksgiving table.

Use Branches in Creative Ways

We love the dramatic look of branches arranged in a tall vase. But if there’s anything we’ve learned from the Barefoot Contessa (and we’ve learned a lot), it’s to keep your table decor height at a minimum to ensure guests can see each other across the table. Instead, set a table runner down and place branches so that they run parallel to the length of your table. It creates a whimsical, woodland scene that feels straight out of a Thanksgiving fairytale.

Monoch

Go Monochrome

While we love the layered look of linens, plates, and flatware in different, but coordinating colors, there’s something so dramatic about a Thanksgiving tablescape done in one tone. (Particularly when that color is white.) Here, the color palette serves to accent and emphasize the shades brought forward through the food and natural touches. If you really want your menu to stand out, opt for this look. Just be sure to garnish your mashed potatoes with a lot of parsley—you don’t want them getting lost in the shuffle.

Simple Thanksgiving table decor.

Match Accents of Copper

As far as materials go, copper is a natural choice this time of year. It echoes the darkened leaves and shorter days of the season. What’s more, it pairs perfectly with green, serving as a strong, beautiful backdrop to the small sprig of olive branches giving depth to the simple napkin and flatware setting. It’s simple Thanksgiving table decor at its finest. To take it a step further, try writing or typing out your Thanksgiving menu and slipping it between the napkin and flatware.

Persimmon fruit centerpiece Thanksgiving table setting ideas.

Use Fruit as a Centerpiece

Persimmons reach their ephemeral peak this time of year, and lining them down the center of your Thanksgiving table adds gorgeous pops of color. It’s a design trick that’s so easy to create. Just be sure to keep your table linens simple so they don’t compete with your centerpiece. And if you can’t find persimmons, seasonal fruits like pears, apples, pomegranates, or even mini pumpkins work beautifully as well.

Simple wrapped place setting.

Add a Sprig of Something to Your Napkin Ring

Rosemary, olive, eucalyptus, or dried flowers are an easy way to dress up a plain napkin ring. Even if you’re keeping your table decor streamlined and simple, add a little depth to your place setting with something from nature that ties the whole look together.

Thanksgiving buffet.

Serve a Buffet

When you’re serving a crowd at Thanksgiving, you often have to do the challenging dance of making the food accessible, but also ensuring it doesn’t take up too much space at the dining table. Rather than having everyone shuffle in and out of the kitchen, set up an additional table to serve as a buffet. This frees up space for your decor and puts your dishes within reach so guests won’t have any trouble going up for seconds.

Low-key, understated candles.

Keep Candles Low-Key

It’s easy to overdo it on the candles. When you’re tempted to illuminate a million tea lights, tapers, and pillar candles, take a step back and embrace a less-is-more approach. We like just a few taper candles at different heights to create enough variety and interest without competing with your guests’ view or your table’s precious real estate. Plus, little flickers of light are so much more elegant.

Eucalyptus table centerpiece.

Go Maximalist With Greenery

Add height and color to a simple runner by arranging greenery all along the center of your table. Pick up a few bunches of eucalyptus from the grocery store (hi, Trader Joe’s) and place them so that groupings of leaves extend out in alternating directions. It’s such an easy, low-effort, high-reward trick.

Pinecone place card.

DIY Pinecone Place Cards

When we have the time, who doesn’t love a good holiday craft? Spend an hour or so the weekend before Thanksgiving putting together these darling pinecone place cards. (With Gilmore Girls playing in the background and a mug of something warm nearby, this sounds like an ideal Saturday activity.) Purchase some cardstock, write your guests’ names in simple lettering, and secure to a pinecone. You may need to go foraging or you can easily find bulk mini pinecones online. It’s simple and stunning.

Cozy Thanksgiving table setting

Incorporate Color in Unexpected Ways

When it comes to adding color to the Thanksgiving table, we like to leave the work to our accessories. Keep your larger pieces—dinnerware, tablecloth, etc.—largely neutral and look to the details for an opportunity to incorporate color. Linen napkins are an easy way to do this, as the look will still feel balanced and symmetrical if you keep the accent color the same at every setting.

Pine garland Thanksgiving table setting.

Create a Three-Color Palette

Pythagoras was right when he theorized three as a perfect number, symbolizing harmony and balance. And when it comes to your Thanksgiving table setting, going with three primary colors is the best way to ensure you don’t go overboard. Here, the look leans feminine with an aesthetic of green, red, and white—echoing the transition from fall to winter. Run a pine garland down the middle of your table and dot it with pomegranates. A white linen tablecloth and cream napkins are a gorgeous way to complete the look.

Dessert table for Thanksgiving.

Establish a Sweets and Bites Table

For many people, this holiday is all about the pie—and as a result, you oftentimes have far too many desserts than vacancies on your table. We like to set up a small dessert table with no more than an arrangement and perhaps a few tea lights for decor. Layer in vessels of different heights to keep the simple setting dynamic, but before you add anything more, remember: this is all about the sweets.

Earthy, natural Thanksgiving table setting idea.

Echo the Fall Harvest

Set a reminder of what you’re grateful for with edible, seasonal touches woven throughout your table. A minimalist cheese plate is a gorgeous—and tasty—representation of the harvest. You can even place a decorative bowl full of pears and apples for even greater impact. Add a few white pillar candles to the mix and bask in the glow. Fruits and foliage are an alliterative pairing we’ll always be happy to let guide our design decisions.

Thanksgiving table setting with leaf place cards.

Ground Each Setting With Fall Leaves

Fallen leaves are in abundance, so set out on an autumnal adventure gathering the prettiest ones for your Thanksgiving table. Get step-by-step instructions on pressing and preserving leaves and enjoy the relaxing activity in the lead-up to all the holiday excitement. Once the leaves have dried, you can paint them for a vintage look and use a gold, silver, or white Sharpie to write your guests’ names on each. I love completing this simple Thanksgiving table setting idea with an accent of gourds and pumpkins running along the table.

Pumpkins Thanksgiving table setting ideas.

Streamline Your Pumpkins

Speaking of pumpkins, the tendency is often to go overboard with your harvest. Instead, we like to stick with two colors to ground the focus and simplify the table. Green and white pumpkins look so elegant paired together. Try adding a few mini pumpkins to the mix for a sweet autumnal touch.

Go Glam With Gilded Touches

The December holiday season is all about the sparkle, and if you’d like to embrace the visual magic starting with Thanksgiving, there are a few easy ways to keep the look in check. You can spray mini pinecones with gold leaf spray paint. Or, if you don’t have time for crafts, simply purchase a beautiful golden bundle of pinecones. We also like simple green and silver candles with a soft sparkle to their exterior to help illuminate your table.

Vintage plates Thanksgiving Table Setting Ideas.

Add Whimsy With Vintage Plates

I love using vintage plates to merge different design aesthetics. Here, the colorful china is layered over wicker chargers to add a little charm and interest while still keeping the table setting cohesive. Mirror the vintage appeal with silver flatware to unite the look.

Minimalist, cozy Thanksgiving table setting.

Don’t Forget About Seating

No matter the aesthetic of your Thanksgiving table, coziness is always a consideration. To make your guests feel the most at home, drape faux sheepskin pelts over wood benches or chairs. Not only does it lend a little hygge to the vibe, but if your holiday meal is anything like ours, they’ll be grateful for the extra comfort a few hours in.

When the temperatures turn crisp, we love to get comfy with a luxe throw or cloud-like sweater. And since home is where we create our fall cocoon, it’s lovely to wrap our walls up in something cozy as well. Whether you’re rethinking a room or refreshing some cabinets, we tapped a group of designers for their expert insights into the top fall 2023 paint color trends.

Our design-minded guiding lights this fall include Becca Stern, co-founder and creative director of Mustard Made; Kristin Marino of KozyKasa; Sarah Tract of Sarah Tract Interiors; and Demaudecia Taylor, color consultant at Farrow & Ball.

The following shades a trends may vary, but a sense of warmth connects them all.

#1. Creamy White > Crisp White

As we bid the sterile white wall trend a long overdue adieu, we’re welcoming in a new kind of neutral. “Going for a creamier, warmer white instead of the crisp, bright white we’ve been seeing in recent years is a great way to warm up your space while still keeping a neutral palette,” shares Kristin Marino of KozyKasa.

A few of Marino’s favorite warm whites…

School House by White Farrow & Ball

A soft, off-white that’s perfect for warming up trims and wooden doors.

Indian White by Benjamin Moore

A warm white with subtle nuances.

Farrow & Ball’s Demaudecia Taylor seconds the trend with her own pick, Au Lait No. CB9, which will pair beautifully with all the fall colors in this story.

#2. Earthy Greens

“My favorite color for autumn 2023 would have to be Sage,” shares Mustard Made founder Becca Stern, who drenched her sons’ room in the calming, earthy shade of green—a perfect match with the Australian brand’s Sage-hued line.

“It pairs beautifully with deeper, traditional autumnal colors, like rust and olive,” Stern adds. “It’s also really versatile and can be used in just about any room, from a kid’s bedroom to a kitchen or workspace. If you want to go all-in sage is a great option for color drenching your space. Or, for a more subtle approach, it can be used as a highlight to a room, through painted trim or a statement furniture piece.”

#3. Jewel Tones

“Rich hues and jewel-toned colors are perfect for welcoming autumn,” shares Taylor, a color consultant for Farrow & Ball. “Here are a couple of colors that are quickly rising in popularity.”

Brinjal No.222 by Farrow & Ball

Both Taylor and designer Sarah Tract are fans of this rich Bordeaux red.

De Nimes No. 299 by Farrow & Ball

This grounding, earthy blue brings a rich and organic feel to every room from the kitchen to the most relaxing bedrooms.

#4. Warm and Timeless

Though we love the idea of eternally tweaking and redecorating, painting is still a pricey—and usually inconvenient—commitment. You can paint with confidence thanks to Demaudecia Taylor’s and Sarah Tract’s picks, which are as timeless as they are warm.

Accessible Beige by Sherwin Williams

“The happy medium between grey and beige to give you that perfect shade of greige!” – Sarah Tract

Templeton Pink No. 303 by Farrow & Ball

“Templeton Pink is a fan favorite. You can add this warm and inviting hue to spaces such as a study or a dining room, which will bring the perfect amount of cozy to your home.” – Demaudecia Taylor

Swiss Coffee a Paint Color by Benjamin Moore

“The best cream that is soft and cozy” – Sarah Tract

#5. Dusty Hues and Browns

Dusty lilacs and plums are a gorgeous part of 2023’s purple paint resurgence. A few of Marino’s favorites include…

Brassica No. 271 by Farrow & Ball

A moody, more sophisticated lavender.

Muskoka Dusk CC-6 by Benjamin Moore

A plum-like purple with rosy undertones.

“Just like in fashion, brown hues are also trending in interiors,” Marino adds. “Be careful with this one so you don’t date your space. Rather [than beiges], opt for rich brown tones to give a desert feel.”

A few of my favorites include:

Dead Salmon by Farrow & Ball

With pink undertones, this soothing color looks exquisite in candlelight.

London Clay by Farrow & Ball

Magenta pigment gives this charming brown its richness.

Sable by Sherwin Williams

Rich and cozy, with a hint of orange.
